2 years ago, young Drew Siegrist started out on our
Saturday morning group rides riding a 30 pound purple
mountain bike. Everyone was amazed because they could
barely keep up with him then. Now at 16, he's one of the fastest
junior racers around. Drew just slapped some more speed
on his Cannondale System Six with the addition of some
HED Stinger 60s. That's the Ultimate crit machine.

That's my nephew!
About that purple mountain bike... Having ridden from Charlotte to Seattle two summers prior, I was pretty quick on my carbon road machine; and thought I would tease him on a 20 miler sprinting for yellow country road signs. It was my turf, I knew there to be nine.
Number one, put on some steam, no problem.
He learned a little. Number two, well, he was not far behind.
Number three, He would not get off my wheel. Surely a young man, riding a machine that weighs half of what he does; would not pass me... All I could do to fend him off. How was this possible?
Number 4, his lips beginning to turn blue, a demonstration of focus and tenacity. I cannot keep him from passing.
5,6,7,8,9; Drew never giving up, never giving in, nearly killing his uncle. I never caught him on the purple machine... what now?
I was never that fast. Somebody sneak some lead shot into his downtube, or let some air out of the tires....
